Things You'll Need
- Wire break locator
- Metal rod
- Boundary wire
- Wire cutters
- Outside wire connectors
Instructions
Walk the perimeter of the invisible fence looking for the boundary wire break. Look for gopher holes or other signs that an animal might have ripped out or chewed through the wire. If nothing is found, rent or purchase a wire break locator device.
Attach the base unit of the locator to the boundary wire of your electronic fence. Most base units have clips that you simply fasten to the wire. Some base units require you to attach the unit directly to the Innotek transmitter box.
Attach the base unit's ground wire to a metal rod and push it into the ground. Some locators come with the ground wire already attached to a metal rod.
Turn on the handheld radio transmitter portion of the wire break locator. Stand over the fence's boundary wire. You should hear a beep or hum. If not, check the batteries in both the transmitter and base unit, and make sure the unit is grounded. Once you hear a sound, lower the sound level as much as possible while keeping it audible.
Walk with the transmitter over the buried boundary wire. Swing the radio from side to side as you go. You'll hear the strongest sound when the radio is directly over the wire, and that way you will know the location of the wire. The sound will stop when you reach the break.
