How to Make Recycled Plastic Dog Bowls

Recycling is one of the most important ways you can reduce the amount of trash in landfills, greenhouse gas levels and energy consumption. But recycling isn't restricted to separating your garbage and taking it to a local recycling center or placing it in the correct bins if your community has recycling pick-up. You can also recycle by finding new uses for objects that would otherwise be considered trash. You can use discarded materials as the basis for craft projects, or use them in new, innovative ways around your house---such as giving food containers new use as dog bowls.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a food-safe plastic container that is large enough to accommodate the amount of food your dog eats. A container that held 1 to 2 cups of food is usually sufficient for a small dog, while for larger dogs, containers that held 3 to 5 cups are better.

    • 2

Wash the container well with dishwashing soap and water to remove all traces of food.

    • 3

Dry well with the dish rag.

    • 4

If necessary, trim down the sides of the container to form a shallow bowl, with walls approximately 6 inches high. This makes it easier for your dog to eat from the bowl.
