How to Make Dog Clothes With Stuff Around Your Home

Your dogs are a part of your family. When the weather turns cold, they need clothes to keep them warm just like you do. Retail dog outfits can be very expensive. Look around your home and through your own old clothes to see what you can find to make your dog's clothes. Some things don't even need sewing. Old sweat shirts are ideal because they are soft and don't unravel.

Instructions

Measure your dog around the biggest part of his chest and around his neck. Write down the measurements.

Cut the long sleeve of an old sweat shirt 20 inches up the arm. Leave the elastic on the end of the sleeve. This will be your dog's turtleneck. Small, medium and large shirt sleeves will fit small dogs, while sizes XL to 4XL will fit small to medium dogs. If the elastic is too tight for your dog's head, cut a slit in the bottom of the elastic next to the seam and even one or two inches into the shirt as needed. You do not have to sew. It won't unravel.

Hold the sleeve up next to your dog's side and determine how far back from the elastic you need to cut the front leg holes. Mark the spots and cut two round holes out for the front legs.

Trim the bottom of the shirt that will fit the belly so that it's in front of his private parts. Trim the top so it lays in front of the tail. The top will be longer than the belly. Just cut and fit it to your dog.
