Putting on a Dog Harness

A dog harness is a very good thing for your dog if she tugs on the leash. A dog that wears a collar and pulls on her leash is at risk of hurting herself or worse. A harness will prevent her from injuring her esophagus. Harnesses can be made of nylon, or leather, and come in various sizes depending upon the size of your dog. Be sure to choose the correct size for your dog.

Instructions

    • 1

Place one of your dog's front legs through one loop of the harness.

    • 2

Place the other front leg through the other loop. The harness should fit like a vest. Be sure it is flat against the dog, with no kinks or twists.

    • 3
Notice the D ring in center of the dog's back.

Make sure the D ring for the leash is in the center of the dog's back.

    • 4

Clip the front clips together across the dog's chest, in front of the front legs.

    • 5

Clip the back clips together across the dog's stomach, behind the front legs.

    • 6

Adjust the harness so that it is not too tight on the stomach or chest and not so loose that the dog trips over it.

    • 7

Attach the leash to the D ring and make sure that the harness does not slide around as this could cause blisters or loss of hair.
