How to Make Fancy Dog Bows

Dog bows are the finishing touch to the perfect pampered-pooch look. After a grooming session, professional dog groomers add bows to a dog's hair for extra pizazz. Dog owners often place bows in a dog's fur to complement a sweater or outfit for a day out. These cute little bows can be purchased from groomers, in pet stores or even at veterinary offices. Bows come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and in varying price ranges. You can make your own fancy dog bows easily and inexpensively at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure a 7.5-inch piece of ribbon.

    • 2

Cut the ends of the ribbon at an angle. This makes the finished product look nicer.

    • 3

Cross the ends of the ribbon to make an x with a loop on top, like the pink Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons.

    • 4

Push the loop of the ribbon to meet the center of the x and hold it there. The ribbon should look like a little bow now.

    • 5

Place the rubber band on the back side of the bow so that the entire circle of the band is flat against the back of the bow.

    • 6

Bend the top of the rubber band over the top of the bow so that it meets the bottom of the rubber band.

    • 7

Pass the top of the rubber band through the bottom of the rubber band, pulling the top part between the tails of the ribbon toward the back of the bow.

    • 8

Tug the rubber band to make it snug.

    • 9

Hot glue any decorative items such as pom poms, glittery stones or beads to the center of the bow.

    • 10

Allow the glue to dry thoroughly (this should only take a few minutes) before placing the bow in your dog's hair.
