How to Make Hats for a Dog

Many dog owners would find it surprising to discover that dogs can sunburn as easily as humans. Owners should keep their dogs in the shade as much as possible on hot days. Putting a hat on a dog can help protect the dog's nose and eyes, two areas needing special attention to prevent sun damage and sunburn.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a baseball cap. The length of the cap's brim should shade as much of the dog's face as possible.

    • 2

Measure the baseball cap on the dog's head and mark the area where the dog's ears sit. Cut out holes for the dog's ears.

    • 3

Sew a piece of elastic from one side of the baseball cap's underside to the other so that it will fit under the dog's mouth, against the dog's neck.

    • 4

Sew a strip of gauze or light fabric across the top of the baseball cap over the dog's ears to protect the ears.
