How to Sanitize Dog Bowls After a Hookworm Infestation

A hookworm is a parasite that affects the intestines of pets, such as cats and dogs. While medicine from a veterinarian can eliminate these harmful parasites from your dog, you will still need to clean items---such as your dog's bed or food and water bowls---to prevent an infestation recurrence. Sanitizing dog bowls is something that should be done monthly as a preventive measure.

Instructions

    • 1

Place 1 tsp. liquid dish soap inside the dog bowl.

    • 2

Fill the bowl with warm water.

    • 3

Scrub the inside of the dog bowl with a dish-scrubbing brush. Discard the brush once you have finished using it.

Rinse the inside of the dog bowl thoroughly with warm water.

    • 5

Pour 1 tbsp. non-diluted bleach into 1 gallon of water. Stir the liquids (or shake the bottle if you added the bleach to a 1-gallon bottle of water) to mix them up.

    • 6

Fill the dog bowl with the liquid and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes.

    • 7

Empty and rinse the dog bowl with warm to hot water.

    • 8

Dry the dog bowl with a dry towel, or allow the dog bowl to completely air dry.
