Things You'll Need
- 5-gallon bottle
- Dishpan
- Plastic box
- Dremel tool
- Hobby knife
- Sandpaper
Instructions
Purchase a 5-gallon bottle from your local grocery store. You can find them at the spring water station. Also purchase a dishpan and a second small box. The dishpan should be plastic and 18 quarts in size. The second box should also be plastic. The base should be 6 inches, while the top should be 8 1/2 inches. Sterilite makes a model called the Fun Box. If you purchase the Fun Box, you will not need the lid.
Cut a hole into the bottom of the small box. It should be the same diameter as the mouth of your 5-gallon jug. You want the jug to be snug, so do not cut the hole to big. Use a Dremel tool with the spiral cutting attachment to cut the hole out. Smooth out the edges using a hobby knife or sand paper. If you choose to use a hobby knife, be very careful not to cut yourself. Keep your free hand firmly placed on the bottom of the box and away from the cutting edge.
Insert the water bottle into the hole you just cut in the bottom of the small box. Fill the bottle with water using a hose or the faucet in your shower.
Place the bottle over the top of your 18-quart dishpan. Turn the bottle and box upside down, so that water can flow out. Place them in the center of the dishpan. Place the whole contraption where your dog normally drinks.
Refill the bottle as needed. Clean the dishpan, bottle and box at least once a week to ensure clean, healthy water for your dog. To do this, take the box and bottle out of the dishpan and wash them with soap and water.
