How to Make Chiffon Ribbon Dog Collars

Chiffon ribbon dog collars are a cute way to make your dog look more festive for the holidays, or to have your pet show her support for the team on game day. A soft elastic band holds chiffon ribbons, which flutter around the dog's neck. Bells, stars or other small objects can be connected to further decorate the collars and add to the festive look. This fun project can be completed by school children or adults, and should take about an hour to make.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the elastic to loosely measure around your dog's neck. Add an inch, then cut the elastic band this length. Overlap the ends 1/2 inch, and sew securely, making sure not to twist the elastic.

    • 2

Cut lengths of ribbon five inches long. Make the ends of the ribbon angled by cutting from one corner of the end downward toward the side about an inch, cutting off a triangle at the end of the ribbon length.

    • 3

Thread one ribbon length through the elastic loop and tie it on by crossing the ends and pulling one end through underneath the cross, making sure that the ends are even.

    • 4

Tie a second length of ribbon onto the elastic loop, directly next to the first ribbon. Make sure that the two ribbons are tied close enough together that the knots touch.

    • 5

Continue tying ribbon lengths to the elastic loop until the loop is filled with ribbons.

    • 6

Use craft glue or needle and thread to connect bells or stars to the ends of some of the ribbon points. You can attach the decorations to all the points, or random points around the collar.
