Picking out a harness
-
Step-in harnesses are sized by the girth, not the size around the neck, so when picking out a harness, keep that in mind. It will need to fit snug, but since it will not be just worn around the neck, it can fit looser than a simple collar would.
Adjusting the harness
-
Once it is picked out, you will need to adjust for the size. If you are not sure, leave it larger and come back to the adjustment step after trying it on your dog. Adjusting is done by pulling the harness through the plastic loop till you have it to the desired size. The snaps to close the harness you should be on either end , and there will be a strip of material running up and down. Adjust the harness and then push the vertical strip of material towards the middle.
Stepping in to the Harness
-
Now you will lay the harness down on the ground. When looking at it, it should look like the number 8 laying on its side with the buckle on both sides. The dog will step one front paw into each circle of the eight. The vertical piece should be in between the dogs legs. Pull up the buckle on each side and snap into place. If adjustment is needed, take the harness off and readjust. You can know clip a leash on and enjoy your dog.

Instructions for Step-In Dog Harnesses
Leashes and collars are a very important accessories for any dog owner. There are many choices of collars that are available for purchase. For ease of use, and for the comfort of the dog, the step-in harness is a great choice. Traditional leashes pull on the dog's throat, which can be dangerous, as well as painful. Harnesses do not press into the body when pulled; instead they lift the dog from the chest and under the front legs. For training purposes, this is also more effective, as you have better control of the dog with a step-in harness.
