How to Attach a Nameplate to a Dog Collar

The benefit of a dog tag is its ease of installation. However, the dangling tag can be noisy, unsightly and prone to catching on things. This can be a particular problem if the dog is a hunting dog, who may get his tags caught in bushes and shrubs. A nameplate on a dog collar can solve these problems, but the tags themselves are a bit tricky to install.

Instructions

    • 1

Line the rivets up with the pre-drilled holes in the nameplate. Use a rivet gun to attach the nameplate to a dog collar. If you do not have a rivet gun, continue to Step 3.

    • 2

Push the rivet through the tag and collar, snugging the pre-shaped head against the tag. Allow the side without the head to stick through the collar.

    • 3

Rest the heads of the rivets against a solid metal or hardwood surface, with the unfinished rivet ends pointing up.

    • 4

Smack the unfinished rivet ends with the flat surface of a hammer. Use the ball peen hammer to further shape and refine the rivet heads you just made.
