How to Test PetSafe

PetSafe is a wireless fencing system that keeps pets inside an invisible boundary on your property. Unlike some systems, PetSafe doesn't require buried wires. All you have to do is plug the system into an electrical outlet. The dog or other pet wears a collar that receives signals that lets it know when it is getting close to crossing the boundaries.

Set up the system according the directions. Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly before you test the system. Plug it into an outlet and secure the special collar to your pet.

    • 2

Take your dog outside and watch her for a few minutes. Is she staying within a certain area? If she is, the system is most likely working. If she isn't, then the system isn't working.

    • 3

Bring the dog toward the boundary. If the dog tries to turn away, it is because she hears the signal. This signal is a high-pitched noise that only dogs can hear. That means the system is working. The dog will receive a shock if it actually goes over the boundary. The collar will only shock the dog if it doesn't heed the warning sound and continues over the boundary.

Test the system a second time if you couldn't clearly determine that the system was working.
