How To Make a Dog Pillow

If you have a very large dog, then you may have trouble finding the right size pillow for him. Large dogs, just like small ones, love having their own beds and pillows around the house. Not only does it give them a space of their own, but it helps keep them off the furniture. If you cannot find the perfect dog pillow for your pet, then make one yourself with your particular puppy in mind.

Instructions

Decide on the dimensions for your dog pillow. Think about how your dog likes to sleep. Does she curl up in a ball or sprawl out on her back? If you can get your dog to hold still, use the tape measure to get a round idea of how much space she uses when when she sleeps. Then convert these measurements to a square or rectangle. For example, if the dog takes up a space with about 36 inches in diameter, then you should use the measurements of 44 x 44 inches. Add about 6 inches to make sure there is enough room to hold all the stuffing.

Sketch out the pattern on the fabric. You will need two squares or rectangles with identical dimensions. Use the tape measure to get the measurements exact.

    • 3

Cut out the pieces of fabric. Use the scissors and make the cuts as even and smooth as possible.

    • 4

Sew three of the four sides of the rectangles together. Use a zig-zag stitch. Lay the fabric pieces together so that the outside of the fabric pieces are facing inward.

    • 5

Turn the dog pillow right side out to prepare the pillow for stuffing.

    • 6

Stuff the pillow. Place the egg crate foam flat on the bottom of the pillow, then add cotton batting onto the top of the egg crate foam until the bed is as fluffy as you wish. The egg crate foam will support an older dog's back just like it would a person's and the cotton batting will add extra cushion.

Sew up the fourth side pillow. Use a zig-zag stitch to prevent unravelling. Let your pet try out his new dog pillow.
