How to Secure an Aerial Cable for a Dog Run

Dog runs are a convenient way for pet owners to let their dogs out for some exercise. Dog runs allow a dog to exercise in a yard that isn't fenced in, and will also keep pets out of certain parts of the yard. The toughest part of setting up a dog run is securing the aerial cable.

There are two easy ways to connect an aerial cable for a dog run. Sometimes both ends are connected in the same manner, and sometimes a different method is used on each end. The first method is to simply screw an eye hook into a tree or wooden structure like a deck or fence post.

Attach a carabiner to each end of the aerial cable. Attach the carabiners to the eye hooks. Using a carabiner makes connecting and disconnecting the cable a cinch.

Alternately, loop an anchor cable around a tree trunk, deck or fence post. This method has the advantage of being less damaging than an eye hook, but the anchor cable will gradually slide toward the ground if it is not held up by something. On a tree trunk, try fastening the anchor cable above a limb or knot.

Once the anchor cable is placed, attach a carabiner to both ends of the aerial cable. Connect the carabiner to the anchor cables.
