Instructions

  1. Handmade Dog Scarf

    • 1

Measure pet's neck using a sewing measuring tape, and then add at least 6 inches. This will ensure there is enough room to tie a knot, bandanna style.

    • 2

Lay out fabric on table. Smooth out creases.

    • 3

Using the measurements above, measure the required length on the fabric. Use pins to guide your cutting--usually around two or three per side of the square.

    • 4

Cut a square out of fabric. Cut to the outside of pins, pulling them out as you go.

    • 5

Lay fabric back down on the table, wrong side down first, right side on top.

    • 6

Fold the fabric square in half, which needs to be right sides together. Leave this on a diagonal, which will create a triangle effect.

    • 7

Decide on the thread color you desire for the dog scarf. An easy rule of thumb is to match your fabric to your thread.

    • 8

Sew along all the open edges of the fabric.

    • 9

Leave about 3 inches, which is the opening to be able to turn right side out.

    • 10

Pull the sewn fabric inside out, pulling the right side out where you can see it.

    • 11

Use iron to press fabric down, ironing out creases.

    • 12

Hand sew the remaining 3 inches.

    • 13

Once more, move the iron over the scarf. Place it on your dog, and tie off under its neck, bandanna style.
