Things You'll Need
- PVC pipe
- PVC pipe cutter
- 4 90-degree pvc pipe corners
- cable ties
- mesh, screen, or cloth
Instructions
Measure the doorway where you want to put the gate. You will need to buy two pieces of PVC pipe about four inches less than the width of your doorway. You will also need two pieces of PVC pipe of the height you want your gate to be. (You can buy long PVC pipes and cut them.) PVC pipe is available at places like Home Depot and Lowe's.
Use a PVC cutter to cut the pipes to the proper lengths. Then connect them with four 90-degree PVC corners. Now, you have a frame for your dog gate.
Cut mesh cloth, wire screen, or even an old blanket or sheet to fit the inside of your doggie gate frame. Use cable ties to secure the mesh all the way around the gate.
Put your gate in the doorway. You can use hinges used for chain-link fences to secure your gate to the doorframe (if the frame is small enough). Or you can tie it in place with cable ties or rope (depending upon how permanent you want the gate to be).
A third alternative is to use spring-loaded shower curtain rods to hold the gate in your doorway. You will need to insert the rods inside the pipe at the bottom and top of your gate. Instead of using 90-degree corners, use T-corners, which allow you to insert the rods through the pipe.
