How to Build a Doggie Wheelchair

Usually when Spot or Rover has a surgical procedure or have been treated after an accident, they are confined to their beds. Favorite pets have been put down in the past when they become disabled. You can save your pooch and make his recuperation and crippled life easier for both of you by creating a doggie wheelchair for your favorite incapacitated canine.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your dog's height and width.

    • 2

Attach the wheels together with a pipe that is the correct width for your pup's rear end to fit. You don't want the turning pipe to rub against his hindquarter. Stabilize the center of the wheels with nuts and bolts and attach a pipe on either side so that it is high enough for your dog to lie his rear on it comfortably.

    • 3

Put a length of pipe sideways to form the mat where the doggie will rest his torso and attach a removable pad between the tow lengths of pipe.

    • 4

Use corner connector pipe ends to snugly attach the pipes to each other. Aluminum pipes are acceptable for lightweight pups, but use copper or steel pipes for larger dogs.

    • 5

Make the pad from a heavy piece of plywood board cut to size. Cover it with vinyl that can be wiped down or make a cover out of canvas that can be removed for cleaning.

    • 6

Sew on straps to the sides of the mat that tie on top of the dog's back. Set him up and he will take off.
