Instructions

    • 1

Buy 1 yard of canvas. Any type of canvas will work when making your pet's bowl mat. Simply choose a type of canvas that appeals to you and maybe even reflects your pet's personality.

    • 2

Use a ruler to lightly pencil the boundaries of your pet bowl place mat. The size of your place mat depends on the size of your pet and its eating habits. If your pet is a messy eater, make the pet bowl place mat bigger than usual. Use a regular human place mat as a guide for dimensions.

    • 3

Cut the place mat out of the canvas. Hem the edges by sewing, gluing or duct taping the raw edges to the place mat's underside. Make all the edges even.

    • 4

Attach a non-slip material to the underside of the place mat so that your pet's bowl won't slide while it's eating.

    • 5

Decorate your place mat using markers, paint, stencils or other materials. Write your pet's name on the place mat. Stencil whatever you want onto the placement--bones for a dog, mice for a cat or phrases. You could even sketch your pet's portrait on the place mat.

Apply a few coats of polyurethane to the pet bowl mat once it's done.
