Instructions
Get Ready to Sew
Measure your dog. You will need to know the length of her back and the distance around her chest. Write the measurements down so you won't have to measure again.
Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and cut it so it is one inch longer than the length of your dog's back. Then cut it so it is one inch wider than the chest measurement you took.
Keep the fabric folded and draw a light pencil line five inches from the fold on the short side of the fabric. Measure seven inches across from the end on the long side and make another light pencil mark.
Draw a straight line connecting the two marks and cut along it. When the fabric is still folded, this will leave a seven by five by 8.5 inch triangle where the fabric has been cut away.
Mark the fabric halfway from the top to the bottom on the side opposite the triangle you just cut away. Draw a line from the bottom of the front half to the halfway mark and cut along that line. Unfolded, your fabric should now have a "V" shaped notch on the front and narrow to the back.
Sew Your Doggie Raincoat
Unfold the fabric and sew a 1/2 inch hem along the end opposite the side where the neck has been cut out. Sew a 1/2 inch hem along the neck opening and the straight sides of the front.
Hem the two sides of the your nearly-done doggie raincoat.
Attach 1.5 inch strips of Velcro to the front of the raincoat where the two ends overlap and to the bottom where you need to do up your dog's coat.
Let your doggie model his new raincoat. Feel free to take a picture or two.
