How to Make a Bandana for a Dog

You can dress your dog in formal attire, sporty attire or winter coats and boots. On your days in the dog park, where the human equivalent would be jeans and a t-shirt, dress your dog with a bandana. They are inexpensive to make, and you can have a new one for your pet every day of the week.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the right fabric. Go to your local fabric store and look for lightweight cotton or cotton blend materials to make a bandana for a dog. These breathe more easily and will be comfortable on your dog's neck. Pick up a few different designs of fabric and try to pick out ones that match your dog's personality.

    • 2

Cut fabric into 22 inch by 22 inch squares. For most dogs this size will be a good fit. If you dog is much bigger or much smaller than average try a size from 11 inches by 11 inches up to 28 inches by 28 inches.

    • 3

Fold diagonally. For a bandana to tie easily around the neck, fold it diagonally so that the two points meet.

    • 4

Hem ½ inch along all three sides. Sew all three sides to ensure that the fabric doesn't separate. If you have a particularly active pooch, make a bandana for a dog with a solid hem to avoid fraying.

    • 5

Decorate it. Use fringe, stencils, paint or faux fur to line and distinguish your dog's bandana. For the super haughty dog you can even add sequins in their initials to make a bandana for a dog with real style.
