How to Make a Hinged Dog Food Bin

Anyone who has brought home a big, bulky bag of dog food knows how it gets in the way and how smarter dogs (and cats) chew through the bag to get extra food. A dog food storage bin provides a convenient and secure place to empty the food and it can be put on a shelf or in a closet out of the way. Making the bin is a relatively straightforward task.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and mark off six 2-by-2-foot panels. Use your square to draw the lines for cutting the panels. Cut the panels with your circular saw.

    • 2

Select three panels and stand two of them up on the floor and lay the third piece across the top of them. Make sure all of the edges are squared off. Drill three screws into each side panel. The screws should be evenly spaced with one at the top, one in the middle and one at the bottom.

    • 3

Stand the box on the piece you just attached and attach another panel at the other end. Flip the box to attach another panel to form the base of the box.

    • 4

Screw the hinges to the edge of the remaining panel and attach the other end to the back piece of the box on the outside.
