How to Make a Dog Feeding Station

Let's face it: Dogs can be messy when they eat. A dog feeding station may cut down on this mess. Further, a dog feeding station helps older dogs with arthritis because they don't have to strain their necks down to the floor to get at their food and water. The basic purpose of a dog feeding station is to elevate your dog's food and water bowl to its neck level. You can add in cupboards or shelves for storage later, if needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of your dog's neck from the floor. You want the feeding station to be of a height at which your dog only has to dip its neck slightly to eat and drink.

    • 2

Measure and cut four pieces of 1-inch-by-2-inch boards to your dog's height. These four pieces are the legs for the station.

    • 3

Place your dog's bowls side by side on the plywood, leaving an inch or two of space between them. Use your square to draw a rectangular box around the bowls, leaving several inches of space to collect dropped food and splattered water. Dog bowls are different in size depending upon the breed, so each station is different. Cut the plywood using your circular saw.

    • 4

Measure the diameter of the dog bowls and draw circles on the plywood with your compass using those measurements. Use your drill bit to cut an entry hole for the jigsaw in the circles, cut out the circles and sand the edges with your rasp.

    • 5

Drill the leg pieces onto each corner of the platform and attach the angle braces for added support.
