How to Make a Couch for a Puppy

Puppies require a lot of initial care, from potty training to learning to walk on a leash. However, a puppy's comfort is also important. A couch for a puppy will keep the dog from lounging on the home's sofa or chairs, preventing animal fur from accumulating across the fabric. Instead of purchasing a puppy couch, a pet owner can make a couch himself for his pet to enjoy.

Instructions

    • 1

Research the puppy's breed to estimate its adult size. Base the couch's size on the puppy's estimated adult size for a long-lasting piece of pet furniture.

    • 2

Lay one foam cushion on the ground. Place another cushion perpendicular to the one on the ground, creating an "L" shape. Staple the cushions together along their connection points. Make sure that the staples puncture through both cushions for a secure fit. This "L" shape forms the back and base of the couch.

    • 3

Staple square-shaped foam cushions to either side of the "L" shape foam cushion to create couch arms.

    • 4

Lay a chosen fabric across the cushions. Form the fabric around the cushions and pin the fabric's loose ends together.

    • 5

Remove the fabric carefully from the foam with the pins intact. Sew the pinned areas together with a sewing machine. Remove the pins after the sewing stitches are set.

    • 6

Attach the fabric to the foam cushion assembly. Make sure that all stitches are holding tight as the fabric stretches along the foam.
