How to Get a Dog to Like Rawhide Bones

There is some controversy about the use of rawhide bones for dogs. Some dog guardians feel rawhide bones are unsafe because dogs occasionally chew them down to sizes that can cause choking. Other dog guardians find great benefit in rawhide bones for keeping dogs occupied and for keeping them from chewing on other objects. If you're one of those dog guardians who want to use rawhide bones as a distraction for your pet and your dog shows little interest in rawhide bones, there are steps you can take to help your dog find rawhide bones more interesting.

Instructions

    • 1

Rub peanut butter on the rawhide bone. Most dogs love peanut butter. If your dog happens to be one of the rare pooches that doesn't enjoy peanut butter, try rubbing moist dog food or another treat your dog particularly enjoys on the rawhide bone.

    • 2

Offer the rawhide bone smothered in peanut butter to your dog as a treat. For example, if you make your dog sit for a treat, give your dog the "sit" command, and offer the bone as a treat.

    • 3

Continue to offer the rawhide bones with peanut butter added until your dog enjoys chewing on the rawhide bone without the added incentive.
