How to Make an Enticing Rubber Toy for a Dog

Purchasing dog toys can get expensive fast, so use items around your home to fashion homemade dog toys. Rubber toys are a dog favorite, so create enticing rubber toys your dog will love, such as those that involve treats. If you find your dog really enjoys the toys you make, make a few as gifts for your friends' pooches or try selling them at crafts fairs and flea markets. Be sure to not use any items your dog can choke on.

Instructions

  1. Bouncing Sock Ball

    • 1

Find an old sock, such as one that has faded or has no mate.

    • 2

Place a rubber "bouncy" ball in the sock. Tie the sock with a ribbon or piece of string so the ball stays in the sock. Rubber bands or tape will also work.

    • 3

Use a pair of scissors to cut the top of the sock off. Give the toy to your dog to play with.

    Tennis Ball Puzzle

    • 4

Cut a tennis ball three-quarters of the way around its rubber line.

    • 5

Squeeze the tennis ball so it opens. Fill the ball with dry treats. Don't use wet or even moist treats, which can create too much mess to clean up.

    • 6

Give the ball to your dog. The dog will smell the treats and will occupy itself learning how to obtain the treats by squeezing the ball with her teeth.
