How to Braid a Tug Toy

Dogs have instincts that can lead them to destructive behavior. They may chew on clothing and furniture, dig up carpet, and cause other damage to your home. Keeping your dog entertained and happy will keep it from resorting to destructive behavior, which is often caused by boredom. Store-bought pet toys are fine but making your own is easy and inexpensive. Tug toys are long lengths of braided fabric that your dog can chew and use to play tug-of-war.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your fleece on a flat surface and smooth it out. Measure the fleece using a ruler and mark every 4 inches with a fabric marker to make three columns.

    • 2

Cut the fleece into three strips that are each four inches wide by cutting at each mark. Cutting each strip of fleece completely straight and evenly is not important.

    • 3

Tie the three pieces of fleece together at the top, ensuring that the knot is as tight as possible.

    • 4

Braid the three pieces of fleece by crossing the farthest right panel over the center, then cross the farthest left panel over the new center panel. Pull each strand tight to create a tightly braided rope. Repeat until there is only about four inches of fabric left at the bottom.

    • 5

Tie a knot at the end of the braided fleece rope and pull it as tight as possible to finish it.
