Instructions
Drop your dog off at a doggie day care center. These short-term stays provide constant companions for your pet during the day and often have a slew of amenities for your pooch. He may get to play chase outside, interact with other dogs during his time at the center or enjoy a walk or two by a trained staff member. It may be worth the cost to know that your dog is being stimulated during hours when you are unable to tend to him.
Provide a new toy on a regular basis. Like a child, your dog gets tired of playing with the same old toys in the backyard. Just before you leave the house at least once a week, leave him with a new toy with which to play. Even something simple like a new bone to bury can help him pass the time while you are at work or away from home during the day.
Play a video for your dog if he's in the house while you are gone. You can purchase a video geared toward dogs that spend large quantities of time alone in the house. These videos are running displays of sights and interesting sounds replicated from outdoor environments, according to the Super Happy Pets website. This gives your dog some stimulation despite being locked in the house all day.
Install a dog door in your house. This gives him access to the interior of the home and outdoors as well. Provide ample food and water as well as a comfortable place to nap inside and a virtual smorgasbord of toys and entertainment outside. Put his bones and toys outdoors and other stimulating items he enjoys playing with, including items scented with dog pheromones to entice him to come out and play.
How to Keep Dogs Entertained During the Day
Keeping your pooch entertained throughout the day can prove to be a difficult endeavor. After all, you only have so much time to play tug-of-war with his rope toy and throwing the Frisbee or ball isn't a daylong activity. Moreover, if you are not generally home during the day, he may find less desirable ways to keep busy, which may include gaping mud holes in your backyard. There are some creative ways in which you can keep your dog entertained during daytime hours.
