How to Get Rid of the Smell of Dog Vomit

Like people, your dog can get sick. When you decide to take a dog in and make him part of your family, you need to be prepared to care for him for better or worse, just like any other family member. If your dog becomes sick and starts to vomit, you should immediately contact your veterinarian. The problem could be serious. This is especially important if your dog vomits twice within a short period of time. Once you take care of your dog and make sure its health is not at risk, then you can tackle the problem of cleaning up the mess and getting rid of the smell of dog vomit.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubber gloves
  • Paper towels
  • Water
  • Baking soda
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Club soda
  • Nontoxic pet cleaner

      Put on rubber gloves and use paper towels to remove solid particles of dog vomit.

      Pour a small amount of water over the vomit to help get any excess vomit off the surface.

      Sprinkle a liberal amount of baking soda over the entire area. This will help soak up the liquid and eliminate the smell.

      Vacuum up the baking soda after it's completely dry. Sprinkle more baking soda and vacuum again.

      Pour club soda over the entire area. Use paper towels to soak up some of the moisture by dabbing the area.

      Spray on a nontoxic cleaner that's made for cleaning up pet messes. Rub it in gently with paper towels and allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes. Check the label on the product for more a more specific time frame.

      Pour water over the area and, again, dab with paper towels to soak up remaining moisture.
