How do you make yabbies breed?

Breeding yabbies (Cherax destructor)

1. Select healthy, mature yabbies.

Look for yabbies that are roughly 1 year old and 3-4 inches in length. They should be healthy and active, with no signs of disease.

2. Set up a breeding tank.

The breeding tank should be at least 10 gallons in size and have a substrate of about 2-3 inches of sand or gravel. The water should be clean and free of chlorine, with a pH between 7 and 8 and a temperature between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Add the yabbies to the tank.

Start with a male and female yabby, and then add additional females if desired. The male will court the females and the females will lay their eggs under their tails.

4. Provide food for the yabbies.

Yabbies are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods, such as fish pellets, vegetables, and bloodworms. Feed the yabbies once or twice a day, and remove any uneaten food within a few hours.

5. Keep the water clean.

Partially change the water in the tank once or twice a week to keep it clean and free of waste.

6. Wait for the eggs to hatch.

The eggs will hatch in about 2-3 weeks. The baby yabbies will be very small and will need to be fed live food, such as brine shrimp or daphnia.

7. Raise the baby yabbies.

The baby yabbies will grow quickly and will be ready to move to a larger tank in about 6 months.

8. Enjoy your yabbies!

Yabbies are interesting and rewarding creatures to keep and breed. They are also delicious to eat!
