Instructions
Crate train your Doberman. This teaches the dog that it has a safe place of its own to go to when it feels stressed. It also provides a safe, familiar containment for the pet when guests or repair people are in the home.
Socialize your dog with people, places and other animals. A well-socialized dog is less likely to engage in unwanted behaviors such as growling and biting at others.
Use short commands in a calm voice.
Be consistent with commands. All family members should agree on what commands are used to discipline, praise and train your dog. Inconsistent commands confuse your dog and do not achieve successful training results.
Enroll your dog in obedience classes. Obedience classes teach you and the dog how to communicate with each other to achieve desired training results.
Use positive reinforcement such as treats and verbal praise when your dog behaves the way you want it to or ask it to behave. This reinforces good behavior.
Enter your dog in agility or obedience trials. Competition and the training regimen increase the quality of life of your dog by allowing it to express its natural instincts. Well-adjusted dogs are less likely to have behavioral problems.
Exercise your dog daily and maximize walking, feeding and grooming time by practicing basic commands for tidbits of treats. This reinforces good manners all the way around.
Keep training sessions short, and end training sessions on a positive note. This reinforces that training time is a time for earning treats.
Schedule regular veterinarian visits for checkups and vaccinations. Sick dogs are less likely to perform well or behave as expected by their owners.
