Things You'll Need
- Roll bar or roll tube
- Brackets
- Fence wire
Instructions
Install a Roll Guard
Measure the length of your chain link fence. Purchase a roll bar or roll tube long enough to cover the entire length of the fence.
Attach brackets large enough to fit the diameter of the roll bar to the top of the fence. The bracket should be at least 1/16 inch larger than the roll bar you are using. Space the brackets approximately six feet apart.
Place the roll bar into the brackets so that the roll bar covers the entire length of the fence. If installed correctly, the roll bar should turn inside the brackets under the slightest pressure, preventing your dog from using the top of the fence as leverage.
Roll Guard Alternatives
Replace your chain link fence with a fence too high for your dog to place its paws at the top. Remove any bushes or shrubbery near the fence that can provide a springboard for your dog.
Consider installing wire on top of your chain link fence. However, this is not a recommended alternative if you have children in your home.
Place toys and attractions inside your fenced yard to keep your dog entertained. Distracting your dog may decrease its desire to escape the yard.
Get your dog sprayed or neutered. The desire to mate is a huge motivator for escape. Eliminating this desire can help decrease problematic behavior in your dog.
