Instructions
Approach your dog. When the dog jumps up, turn around and walk away, as if you were ignoring your dog. Walk through a door and close it, with the dog on the other side of the door.
Wait for 30 seconds to one minute, and then open the door again. If your dog jumps on you, turn again and walk away a second time. Repeat this until your dog stops jumping.
Praise your dog when you walk through the door and your dog doesn't jump. Reinforcing positive behavior will teach your dog faster than using a "no" or "off" command once the dog has already jumped.
Hold your dog on a leash when visitors enter. If the dog jumps on a guest, ask your guest to turn their back and walk away from the dog. Have your guest repeat this until the dog doesn't attempt to jump on them, and then they can greet the dog.
How to Train Saint Bernard Puppies Not to Jump
The Saint Bernard is a dog that has been recognized in the American Kennel Club since 1885. While generally mellow and easygoing, a young Saint Bernard has the playful exuberance of any other breed of puppy. Training your Saint Bernard puppy not to jump is very important, so the dog will be obedient when it grows to its adult size of 130 to 180 pounds. With some persistent training and positive reinforcement, your Saint Bernard will greet you in a calm, obedient manner.
