Instructions
Ignore your dog's hyperactivity until it calms down. Avoid all eye contact, verbal confirmation or touching your dog, as these activities will reinforce the hyperactive behavior. Also, avoid negative attention during these periods, including yelling at your dog, disciplining it or ordering it to cease its hyperactive behavior. Wait for your dog to calm down, then reward it with the attention that it desires. Repeat this every time your dog begins showing signs of hyperactivity and see whether your dog ceases this behavior earlier after a few tries.
Note any recent changes in your dog's lifestyle if the hyperactivity is a new behavior. Include changes in the food you serve it, your lifestyle or the amount of time you spend with your dog. If the hyperactivity began within a few days of a significant change, reconsider the change if you can. For instance, if you change your dog's food and a few days later it begins showing signs of super hyperactivity, go back to its previous dog food.
Take your dog out for a vigorous walk around your neighborhood or in your backyard. Schedule a time each day for you to take your dog on a similar walk. Keep it moving during your walk and run out some of its energy. Enjoy your time outside with your dog and reward it with positive attention when you return from your exercise if your dog is calm, tired and restful.
Identify areas of stress and anxiety in your life, including stress from work, relationship problems or family issues. Remember that your dog mirrors your anxieties and personal stress. Confront your areas of anxiety and identify their effect on your life. Force yourself to relax as you enter your home or during your play times with your dog.
