How to Scare Stray Dogs Out of Your Yard

Some homeowners have problems with neighborhood dogs. The dogs enter the yard and cause damage by defecating on the lawn, digging up flowers or burying items. In some neighborhoods fences are not allowed, or the fence doesn't keep dogs away. There are a few methods you could use to scare dogs out of your yard.

Instructions

    • 1

Shout and/or chase the dog out of the yard.

    • 2

Turn the garden hose on the dog. A sudden spray of cold water is a deterrent for most dogs.

Purchase and install an animal repellent kit that includes a motion sensor, noisemaker and a spray of water. The products are motion-activated and emit a sound and a spray of water that startles the dog. Place the motion-activated water sprinkler in the area that the offending dog likes the most. Because people can also trigger these products, it's a good idea not to place them next to walkways or roads.
