How to Teach a Dog to Use Pee Pads

Potty training your puppy or dog usually means teaching it to relieve itself outside. However, if you tend to be gone from home for an extended period of time, you might want to give the dog a space inside the house to relieve itself. In such a situation, you can train the dog to use a pee pad.

Instructions

    • 1

Place pee pads in an area of your house that has linoleum or tile in case of accidents.

    • 2

Feed and water your puppy as usual. When it is finished, wait several minutes before taking it to the pee pad. Give it time to go potty; then give it lots of praise.

    • 3

Place the puppy on the pee pad every half hour or so. If it relieves itself, praise it.

    • 4

Put the puppy in a confined area with a pee pad, along with food and water, when you are not home.

    • 5

React calmly if your pet has an accident. Simply pick it up and place it on the puppy pad, and clean up.

    • 6

If your dog has an accident, immediately clean the area with vinegar and baking soda, a mixture that is pet safe but will remove the smell of urine and feces.
