How to Make Dog Repellents

Dogs are a joy to have as pets -- but repellents are necessary sometimes to keep bad behavior at bay. Dogs may dig in the yard where they are not supposed to or go to the bathroom in inappropriate places. Puppies, in particular, are known for gnawing on furniture and other valuables. Using repellents to control a dog's behavior under these conditions is a wise way to regain control of your domain.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray brown vinegar or citronella oil. Mix 1 part brown vinegar or citronella oil with 10 parts fresh water in a spray bottle. Squirt a fine mist onto table legs, the base of furniture or the bottoms of doors. The pungent aroma of vinegar or the citrus smell of citronella will naturally repel dogs.

Sprinkle cayenne pepper. Shake a spoonful of ground cayenne pepper over bags of garbage, for example. The natural sting of the smell will scorch a dog's nostrils and induce sneezing.

Bury the dog's feces to stop it from digging. Scoop up fresh dog droppings and drop them in a flowerbed or garden hole, for example, that the dog is digging. Bury the dropping with the removed soil. The smell emanating through the soil will prevent the dog from further digging.
