How to Repel Dogs From a Yard

While you may love dogs, you probably don't want them in your yard. Dogs have a tendency to urinate on trees, dig up flower beds and do other annoying things. Repelling dogs from your yard is an ongoing struggle. Spraying them with a hose only works if you happen to be around when the offending dogs appear, but there are other ways to keep dogs from getting into your yard.

Put up a fence. While this is expensive solution, it does work at keeping neighborhood dogs out of your yard.

Install a water motion sensor. The sensor sprays water on the intruding dogs like a water sprinkler. This is annoying to the dog and in time the sudden water spray acts as a deterrent. If you have a large yard, you need to install several of these sensors for them to be effective in repelling dogs.

Spray a commercial dog repellant around the perimeter of your yard. Dog repellants contain ingredients with smells that dogs don't like. Some dog repellants are powders or crystals that you sprinkle around your property. Try to spray the repellent every week or follow instructions on the label. You also need to reapply powdered repellents on a regular basis as needed.
