DIY Indoor Dog Pen

If you have a new dog who isn't potty trained, or still tears things up, you will want to build him an indoor dog pen. This can be an area in your room that you can cordon off using metal fencing and will prevent your dog from getting into things that he shouldn't. A dog pen is easy to construct and only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to set up. As the dog gets older and more disciplined you can gradually let him out on his own.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Select a place where you want to make your indoor dog pen. Make it a spacious empty area away from things that your dog can tear up or get into such as cabinets or book shelves.

    • 2

Set up the metal fence. These can be purchased at most pet stores (see link in the Resources section) and simply fold out and stand on their own. You can hook several of them together to create a larger fence by using twist ties that come with the fence when you purchase it. Cordon off an area so that your dog doesn't have an escape route.

    • 3

Lay the rubber mat on the floor within the fenced in area. This will give your dog a comfortable place to rest and will make it easy to clean up if he makes a mess drinking water or eating food or snacks.

    • 4

Prepare a place for your dog to relieve himself if he is not yet house trained. You can purchase an indoor grass dog potty. If your dog is still a puppy you can also put out some puppy pads or newspaper for him as well.

Set up the food and water dishes for the dog away from the potty area.
