How to Stop a Beagle Puppy From Teething

A teething beagle puppy is frustrating to your household because of the many things that the puppy will chew on, from shoes to furniture to flooring. (See References 1) Puppies can't help teething, since it is a natural cycle that occurs when the adult teeth come in around 6 or 7 months; however, you can do your part as the owner to ensure that the teething stops destroying your household goods. (See References 1) Making the beagle puppy comfortable and giving him appropriate toys and chew treats will prevent your belongings from destruction and will keep everyone happy.

Instructions

Remove objects from the floor in your home that the puppy may be tempted to chew. (See References 2) If it is on the floor, the puppy will want to chew it to relieve the pain of teething. Place shoes, children's toys, plants and anything else that may be tempting on a table or countertop, away from reach of the beagle. (See References 2)

Buy puppy toys and treats, such as dog bones. (See References 1) These will help you keep your beagle puppy busy and prevent him from chewing on things around the house, which can be dangerous. Train your puppy to chew on the toys rather than furniture and other items; anytime he begins chewing on something he is not supposed to have, give him a toy or treat. He will soon learn the appropriate behavior.

Give your beagle ice cubes to chew on. (See References 2) The cold cube will help calm teething discomfort and can act as a pain reliever. You can enhance the ice cubes by freezing chicken or beef broth in ice cube trays. (See References 2)
