Minimize the amount of attention you give your dog when you come home. Avoid touching or giving your dog eye contact when you first enter the home, as this will only reinforce certain unwanted behaviors such as jumping.
Turn your body away from your dog when you enter the home if he tries to jump on you. By doing this, you will show your dog that this behavior is inappropriate. During this time, do not say anything or give him any type of attention.
Call your dog by his name firmly and command him to sit when you enter the home. When he accomplishes this task, stoop down to your dog's level and praise him by simply scratching behind his ears or patting him.
Show consistency when greeting your dog. Use the same command each time you come home to encourage good behavior. Get your family involved also by encouraging them to do the same when they come home.
