How to Get a Dog From Pooping on the Floor

Dogs and puppies must be housebroken before they can be trusted not to defecate inside the house. Puppies and dogs do not know better and rely on their owner to teach them the rules and regulations of the house, including going to the bathroom outside. Housebreaking can take some time, but it will be rewarding when you are done.

Instructions

    • 1

Set a pattern and schedule for you and your puppy. Take the dog outside after he has finished eating or playing on a leash. Stay outside till the dog urinates or defecates.

    • 2

Redirect the dog's attention if he decides to play while outside. The dog must realize he is outside for a reason.

    • 3

Praise the dog with a treat or petting each time he goes to the bathroom outside.

    • 4

Place your dog in a crate while you are out. A dog will not defecate where he sleeps and thus will hold it until he is let out.

    • 5

Let the dog out of the crate and take him outside to relieve himself every time you come home.
