Find a crate that is the appropriate size for your pug. Pugs are not a large breed and do not need a large-sized crate. Buy a crate that is about 16 to 22 inches in length. The pug should be able to lie down and turn around in the crate. Do not purchase a crate that is too big as the pug may eliminate in the large space.

Place the crate in the area where you will keep it most of the time. Allow the pug to get used to the crate by placing treats in front of the crate. Let the pug eat the treats and praise it for good behavior. Let the pug eat some treats inside the crate to get acquainted with its new space.

Add the pug's favorite blanket and toys in the crate to make it a more enjoyable place for the dog. Use bones and chew toys to keep it busy while crated. Adding peanut butter and kibble inside a chew toy is one way to keep the pug from becoming bored while it is in the crate.
