Instructions

    • 1

Make a loud noise if you find your dog eliminating in the house, such as banging on a metal surface. The noise should not be loud enough to actually frighten your dog, just to interrupt.

    • 2

Say the command "Outside" after making the loud noise to help your dog associate the command with the act of eliminating outdoors.

    • 3

Carry your dog to the spot outside where you're teaching elimination. Set the dog down.

    • 4

Use praise and affection if your dog eliminates outside. Give a treat and lots of attention.

    • 5

Clean up the mess indoors. Use a cleaning product made specifically for cleaning up dog waste. If the spot is not thoroughly cleaned, you will be encouraging your dog to eliminate there again.

    • 6

Ignore your dog if you did not see the accident happening. Your dog will not understand loud noises, yelling or punishments even seconds after finishing. In this case, say nothing and simply clean up the mess. Continue giving positive reinforcement when your dog eliminates outside.
