Animal Training Schools

Animal training schools teach people how to train their animals and understand their behavior. Some schools specialize in certain types of animals such as dogs, rabbits, kittens or wild zoo animals. Courses are taught by certified experts or master trainers. Look for schools that use painless training techniques and methods.
  1. Dogs

    • The Karen Pryor Academy in Waltham, Massachusetts, offers a dog training program with a combination of distance learning and hands-on training workshops. The online course features lessons and training exercises that prepare you for the workshop. Two-day workshop sessions are with the faculty and are scheduled every two weeks. Requirements for admission are two professional references, access to a dog and one other animal and access to a computer with a broadband Internet connection. Traveling and experience handling dogs is also required.

    Animal Behavior

    • The Animal Behavior Academy in Gypsum, Colorado, offers courses in all aspects of animal training, behavior management and business development. Master trainer and owner Terena Thomas is certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. You'll learn from award-winning, certified master trainers. The program includes scientific research, experiential learning and sound business practice. Only painless, fear-free and effective techniques are used to remedy problems.

    Wild Animals

    • Animal Training School in Salinas, California, offers hands-on courses that give skills and knowledge about training wild animals. Courses involve studying, practicing and successful testing. Courses are for two, five and 10 days. Requirements are 18 years of age or older and the physical ability to complete the hand-on part of the course. Private courses are available for people 15 years and older but only with custodial consent. There are specific activities for younger ages.

    Different Pets

    • The Animal Humane Society is a training school in the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area. All family members are encouraged to participate. The program is a flexible program with a two- or four-month training pass, which pays for classes according to your schedule. A combination of lure/award and clicker training are used by instructors. Kitty kindergarten training, handling skills, grooming and litter box know-how are also taught.
