K9 Dog Training Schools

The term K9 refers to working dogs especially police dogs used in law enforcement. According to the American Working Dogs Association, K9 dog training involves use of sophisticated techniques. This ensures K9 dog squads meet high standards of capability and dependability during use by the police or others.
  1. Tarheel Canine Training Inc.

    • This North Carolina dog training school was established in 1994 by master trainer Jerry Bradshaw. The school is a member of the North Carolina region's Dogs Against Drugs and Dogs against Crime Law Enforcement Association and the International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association.

Training courses cover theory and practice of drugs and explosives detection, tactics, arrest techniques, patrol and interdiction. Tarheel offers a two-year K9 health guarantee and a lifelong replacement guarantee on its K9 dog temperament and training adequacy.

    Alpha K9

    • Randy Hare, a professional dog trainer with more than 12 years involvement in law enforcement dog training, runs the Alpha K9 school. The center is licensed by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to handle narcotics and explosives respectively.

Those who want to purchase narcotics detection-trained dogs, explosive detection-trained dogs and patrol dogs from Alpha K9 must take the three- or four-week compulsory handler's course. The three-week course is for the purchase of a detection K9. The four-week course is for the purchase of a dog trained in detection and patrol.

Alpha K9's detection training requires that the handler pass a detection certification test before leaving the school. It offers one year of assistance training in any of the patrol certification tests chosen by trainee agencies.

The center guarantees K9 dog health for one year beginning at the start of the handler's training course.

    US K9 Unlimited

    • US K9 Unlimited, located in South Louisiana, is run by expert police dog trainer Roger Abshire and his team of trainers comprised of certified police personnel possessing police dog handling experience.

US K9 Unlimited trains high-quality retriever breeds, Belgian malinois and German shepherd dogs imported from Europe to sniff out drugs and explosives. They are trained for use in security patrol, tracking and arson investigations.

The school uses real scents rather than fake scents during training. Each K9 dog purchase from the school is accompanied by a free manual and handler course.

Licensed by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the school provides four-, eight- and 13-week programs to train handlers to use the K9s.

    Canine Academy Training Center

    • The Canine Academy Training Center, located on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, trains police dogs on both its sprawling 11-acre training academy and in realistic street or outdoor situations.
