How to Stop Barking in a Kennel With an Ultrasonic

An ultrasonic collar, used to deter barking, emits a noise when the dog wearing it barks. This device is thought to be more humane than other anti-bark collars, such as a shock collar or citronella collar. It also takes more time to work effectively. The device can be used to train a dog not to bark while in a kennel. Most ultrasonic collars send out a soft warning and gradually build up to stronger sounds. If the dog barks incessantly, the collar will shut off for a few minutes to give the dog a break from the noise.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit an ultrasonic collar to the dog's neck and let him get used to it. Make sure it fits properly. It should be loose enough that you can get two fingers between the collar and his neck but not so loose that he can shake or pull it off.

Put the dog in his kennel and turn the collar on. You want the dog to associate the collar with the kennel to train him not to bark while in it. Each time the dog barks, the collar will emit a high-pitched noise that only the dog is able to hear. This will be unpleasant but should not be painful for the dog. Use the collar every time he is in his kennel.

Remove the collar when you take the dog out of the kennel. Associating the collar with the kennel will make the training period most effective. Put the collar back on when you return him to the kennel.

Put the dog in the kennel, after a few weeks have passed, without the collar to see if he starts barking again. Do this for short periods of time. If he doesn't bark, keep the collar off and only use it when he needs to be reminded not to bark when in the kennel.
