How to Stop Aggressive Behavior in Puppies

Aggressive behavior is a common problem in puppies. For most dogs, this can be an easy problem to solve with a little patience and diligence. Others require more effort to cure of aggression.
  1. Home Training

    • The best way to stop aggressive behavior in your puppy is home training. Reward your puppy for good behavior, and redirect them when they engage in bad behavior. Keep treats on hand to reinforce good behavior. Never use violence to train your puppy; this will only exacerbate the aggressive behavior.

    Obedience Classes

    • Obedience classes are an effective way to stop your puppy's aggressive behavior. These classes are inexpensive and not only teach your puppy good behaviors, but teach you skills to make you a better dog owner. These classes are held at most pet stores and some veterinary practices.

    Alteration

    • Many puppies will cease to be aggressive once they are spayed or neutered. Dogs who are intact show aggression out of a sense of competitiveness. Spaying or neutering your pet reduces the hormonal changes in your puppy and will decrease your puppy's tendency toward aggression.
