Instructions
Secure your fence correctly. Repair any broken locks or gates. A fence that is in poor repair is the perfect escape route for a curious dog. Place bricks or rocks to block any holes the dog may have dug at the bottom of the fence.
Play with your dog to make sure it is getting enough physical exercise and attention. Lack of attention and play time with the owner may lead to your dog trying to escape. If you don't have the time, hire a dog walker to come over to walk and play with your dog. Leave some of its favorite toys scattered throughout the yard away from the fence. This could provide hours of fun and distraction.
Neuter your dog. Your dog may be trying to escape due to sexual motivation. Neutering it will prevent your dog from wanting to escape to look for a mate.
Purchase a fence height extension if your dog is jumping over the fence. They can be found at your local hardware store. Move objects that your dog could be using to climb over the fence such as boxes or a dog house.
How Can You Keep a Dog Inside the Fence?
Dogs are curious, natural-born roamers. Enclosing them in a fenced in yard does not cure this urge or curiosity; if anything, it will more than likely increase the urge to see what's on the other side. You can take precautions to distract and prevent your dog from escaping the yard. These steps include properly securing your fence and giving your dog much needed exercise and attention among other things.
