The Quickest Way to House Train a Dog

Quickly and efficiently house training your dog requires patience, consistency and attention. Training a dog to go outside by making clear to her that she is supposed to relieve herself outdoors will produce a well trained dog who will naturally wait to relieve herself until she is outside.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the dog crate in an easily accessible area in your home. The crate will serve as your dog's bed and den until she is house trained. Dogs will not typically go to the bathroom in close proximity to the place they sleep. When your dog is in her crate, she will most likely not have an "accident."

    • 2

Carefully observe your dog's behaviors immediately before she goes to the bathroom. Being able to tell when she has to go is important because this will help you to stop her before she goes inside the house.

    • 3

When your dog is inside, keep her on a leash or in her crate. When she is inside and you notice her begin to behave as if she has to relieve herself, quickly walk her outside.

    • 4

Direct her to an appropriate place on the lawn or in the yard to relieve herself and then praise her as she goes.

    • 5

Repeat this routine on a daily basis.

    • 6

When accidents occur, clean them up with a deodorizing cleaning product because your dog will want to relieve herself in the future on that same spot.

    • 7

When you catch your dog relieving herself inside the house, firmly tell her "no," pick her up or put a leash on her and take her outside. Praise her for finishing to go outside.
