Potty Training
Place your new puppy in a properly sized crate when you are unable to keep a close eye on him. A male dog is more likely than a female to urine mark his territory. Luckily, a dog's natural instinct is to keep his sleeping area clean. The advantage to a crate is your male puppy will keep his new home clean and wait until you let him out to potty.
Watch your puppy when he is running free inside your home. When it looks like he is about to hike his leg to potty, make a sound to startle him and immediately rush him outside. When you get him outside, take him to a special area for him to potty and let him finish. Always take him to the same site because male puppies recognize a urine scent and he will search it out on his own in the future. Give him a treat when he finishes to let him know he did a good job.
Neuter your puppy. Taking the step to neuter your male puppy has many benefits to his health, happiness and well-being. It also reduces urine marking by 50 percent in male puppies.
